Singlebarbed Strikes Again

KBarton, the possibly-less-than-stable mastermind behind Singlebarbed, has found a way for me to legitimize my actions once I declare war on the feral cats my neighbor has fed (and thus perpetuated for generations) in my neighborhood. The difference between a feral cat and a domestic tabby is only how much to lead them… | Singlebarbed Best Quote: "you little furry Motherfu**er, them days is over. You’re going to rediscover camouflage and stealth, leave the quail in my yard alone, or I’m blowing daylight through all that Purina." Enjoy. New post from me, actually, up soon. Finally got me some fi...

A Day in the Rain

About a week ago, I got my tele zoom back from Nikon, good as new.  I was busy for a few days, but eventually got a chance to try it out.  Unfortunately, about halfway through the walk I'd planned to take, it started pouring.  Still, I managed to get a few shots I was pleased with.  I hope you'll agree! Thanks for checking out my photos!  Feel free to leave questions, comments, or complain...

Mint Green Water

Got a few hours freed up earlier in the week and took advantage of the time to get to a slightly more remote stream from me.  The water was beautiful, but the fish are still not warm enough to want streamers, and I'm not about to dredge nymphs for them.  After a while, I put the rod back in the car and got out the camera.  The light was pretty bad by the time I gave up fishing, but I managed a few decent shots.  Hope you all enjoy! The water had a beautiful mint green color to it. ...

Wisdom for the Intermediate Tyer

I stumbled across three old, dusty links in the depths of my Delicious account last night, and decided to re-read them.  Once I'd finished, I realized how much truth, knowledge, and experience the writer managed to cram into three short blog posts. It's about that difficult fly-tying transitional stage, starting just at the end of your last lesson (assuming you got some kind of a lesson, whether from a mentor, fly shop, website, book, or whatever), and it ends right about the time you can consistently crank out a few dozen dries, nymphs, or streamers that look totally identical, are well proportioned, with none of the ugly little imperfections. ...if...that is...you get to that point. Many tyers seem to do their class, learn a dozen patterns or so, and settle in for the long...

Ten Tips for Fly Fishing and Photography Alike

The more I acclimate to the photography community, and the more people and situations I encounter in my fishing adventures, the more I realize why these two seemingly completely different hobbies have appealed to me.  Though the methods and end results are very different, the mindset, personality, and creativity required of fly anglers/tyers and photographers is surprisingly similar, as is the tradition behind each.  This means that many generalized tips, tactics, and suggestions are equally valuable to both the fly angler and the photographer...and doubly valuable to those of us who combine the two. What follows are some bits of wisdom I've picked up from folks who've been at it (both the fishing and the snapping) far longer than I have...and in my own adventures, these are the...
