Work in Progress

Over the past few nights, I've been experimenting with a klinkhamer variant to imitate a caddis emerger.  So far, this is what I've got.  Feel free to tell me what you think of it, or what I might add, remove, or change to make it better:

Para-caddis

Hook: Partridge 15BNX, size 18
Thread: Sheer 14/0, gold
Body: Spirit River Spun Yarn
Wing: Elk
Hackle: Med-dark ginger

Mark that is a fine looking pattern or several insects. I admire anyone that ties with such detail on a size 18 hook! The wing of elk hair looks very interesting too. Were the stray hairs forward purposeful?

Thanks, Gary.

The 15BNX, in my opinion, runs about a full size bigger than described (I'd have called the hook pictured a 16), so it's not quite such a feat.

I tied a few with bleached elk that might be a bit more visible, but it'll have to wait until the caddis start hatching to find out.

I think the stray hairs are actually hackle fibers. ;)

The fibers up and forward are how they're supposed to be, those few that are pointing down below the eye of the hook should have been trimmed.

I found your blog by accident. It's full of wonderful, simple tips!

When I don't (can't) fish for saltwater species, I get to tiny creeks at home, or dream about planning trips in the northeast. And, since my favorite stream (so far) is the Ausable, I'll try your para-caddis with Woodchuck and maybe some CDC.

Nice fly! Thanks, JJP
